Calculating Recoverable Damages in Dog Bite Cases
In the aftermath of a dog bite, especially one to the face, victims often struggle not only with physical injuries, but also with psychological trauma. Recovery from facial bites, which often result in nerve damage and disfiguring scars, may require cosmetic surgery with all its attendant risks and often not covered by health insurance. No firm guidelines exist when evaluating the extent of recoverable damages in such cases, and plaintiffs often must be guided by experienced trial attorneys about what is appropriate. Six-figure settlements are not uncommon, especially in cases dealing with significant scarring.
